Today I spoke at Elizabethtown College to about 150 high school students. These young people were from local high schools and had an interest in accounting as a career. Last week, I also had the opportunity to present to different group of high school students on the campus of Messiah College. This event is put together by the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA’s and I was one of the presenters sharing why accounting is a great career choice.
I enjoy getting the opportunity to explain to young people, that “Accounting is the Language of Business.” Once a person gets their CPA, they can do so many things related to business (start a company, become a CFO or Controller, move into operations, perform management consulting…). I feel so blessed to have chosen accounting as my major and also fortunate to have chosen to work in public accounting!

Scott,
Good for you! There are so many young people who are looking for help, and looking for good role models, and good information.
It is ONE thing to research the Bureau of Labor Statistics data on careers, and COMPLETELY another thing to actually TALK with someone who loves their job/career!!!

Hi Scott,
How does a college arrange to have such a presentation? Is it the college or the PICPA that finds the students to invite?
Here at Susquehanna, we have a long-standing 150 hour program and once students find us, they like it. But we would like to make it onto more HS students' radar, and aren't sure how to locate HS students who are interested in accounting.
